AFRO POWER

August 8, 2016

Hello lovelies,

Hope your month is off to a fantastic start. You’re probably well aware by now that I swear by keeping my 4c strands moisturized, stretched and in a protective style. That’s how I’ve managed to retain length by keeping breakage and tangling at bay. However, I wanted to do something completely different and totally out of my comfort zone for this post- wearing my hair out in an afro is definitely nothing short of that!

It’s been quite some time since I wore my hair out in an afro, and what better time to flaunt it than now when the weather is getting warmer! As the years go by, I’m learning that I need to take time to enjoy the fruits of my labour and just let my hair run wild (I know I will come to regret this during my next detangling session, but hey, YOLO!)

It’s amazing to see just how huge she (my afro-she has a life of her own I tell you!) has gotten. I was also inspired to put this ‘70’s Black Power’ look together in the wake of all the racial-based violence that has been taking place recently. #BLACKLIVESMATTER

To prepare my afro for 70’s fierceness, I first went through my entire washday routine, including a shampoo, a 2-hour deep condition session followed up by my leave-in and then sealed with shea butter. I then loosely twisted my hair into four sections and let it air dry.

After about an hour, I unraveled the sections and fluffed up my hair into the desired shape. I really wanted my afro to frame my face so I ensured to style the front section into some bangs.

I’m not looking forward to my next washday and detangle, but I’m definitely enjoying this while it lasts. Will you take the leap of faith with me and flaunt your fro?
